Sample of contaminated make up(I wish I could use a microscope for this!)
This is a cream foundation make up palette, has been in my make up stock room and I have not use it for a couple of months.I had it for a year so there, yeasts, molds and fungi were formed
No way...will that come near me!
No way....will that come in contact with my skin!
No way...will I ever keep that and use it one last time!
JUST THAT....NO WAY!!!
Have you ever wondered if all the make ups you use are always clean and there's no microbial bacteria present? You would have to think twice...
Why would you risk your skin or your face or even your life to these kind of GONE BAD cosmetics? For goodness sakes, throw them away and buy new ones!
But how do make up last?
Make ups has chemicals such as parabens that makes it last. They are also referred as "preservatives". Preservatives may be used in cosmetics to protect them against microbial
growth, both to protect consumers and to maintain product integrity. So in all safety, a cosmetic product can at least have a small percentage of paraben at a level of 25%. Typically parabens are used at levels ranging from 0.01 to 0.3%.
As per regularization of cosmetic health standards from FDA( Food and Drug Association), they are to approve with whatever ingredients they use with their products except for a few ingredients that are prohibited by regulation.
There are so many studies about the use of parabens in cosmetics as hazardous to our health especially to women and infants but there is no actual and updated experiments regarding this issue that agencies can say parabens are hazard-free.
HOW DO YOU AVOID MAKE UP CONTAMINATION?
First of all, I would like to stress out that not all of us are very keen on hygiene especially with the use of our own cosmetics. We also have our own standards of cleanliness am I right?
So, what is clean for you will not be clean for me.
So, what is clean for you will not be clean for me.
I may be using a make up brush cleaner every now and then even if they're my personal stuff or have my make up cleansed with alcohol after use.Oh well, that is just my idea of cleaning my make up.
When at work, honestly speaking I am not 100% that I never missed a thing with regard to sanitation. I sometimes forget especially when in a hurry but never will I ever forget to use a spatula and palette for mixing and scraping off make up from it's containers (Yes that's right!).It makes work so much easier and more hygienic. In this way, we can prevent contamination of make up products from powder to cream and cream to liquid etcetera.
If I were you, do not share your own make up with other people even if it meant losing a friend. If you decide to do so, please have a q-tip or cotton bud handy , facial tissue and a 70-90 percentage of alcohol (not necessarily 100%).When applying liquid foundations, get the ones with pump.If you'll lend a powder compact, always use a new disposable sponge then spray a bit of alcohol on the surface after use.As for mascara, they are never meant to be shared since they dry out for a couple of months and they come really close to our eyes.
AVOID EYE AND SKIN INFECTIONS.AVOID BREATHING PROBLEMS.
DON'T TAKE A RISK AND USE DIRTY AND CONTAMINATED MAKE UP AND TOOLS.
NOTE:
Since cream make ups and those that are in liquid forms tend to spoil the fastest in just a span of 6 months to a year perhaps, you can help slow the spoiling process by not storing your make up into a moist or warm area such as your bathroom. Keep them in a cool dark place.
For make ups with molds and fungi, do not EVER scrape them off and use them again. PLEASE THROW THEM AWAY. Check all your make up products if there is a discoloration or a different smell (different when you first bought it) again, THROW THEM AWAY.
